Efficient,
fast, secure and consistent - Harwich International Port
offers a service that is second to none. Recent multi-million
pound investments have delivered clearly laid-out, first-class
facilities, all of which we have developed in consultation
with our customers and designed to meet their needs.
As
a result, Harwich offers transport operators the ideal gateway
into Europe and beyond, with more than 50 weekly
Ro-Ro connections to the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark.
Thanks to a complete reorganisation of its internal layout,
and the opening of a new freight entrance and approach road,
hauliers and trailer operators move with increased efficiency
through the Port - a real benefit in today's world of just-in-time
deliveries.
The new freight entrance incorporates cutting-edge technology.
Being the first port in the UK to combine Automatic Licence
Plate Recognition and line scanning technology the resulting
system provides a drive through weighbridge, damage control
and security facilities, helping to speed up throughput in
this busy operation.
Continued growth in Ro-Ro freight traffic has led to a 12
acre expansion of the trailer parking areas, and new ISPS
compliant 2.4 metre high, secure perimeter fencing. The Port
succeeds in balancing the demands of modern security and
vigilance without loss of efficiency.
Enchanced drivers' facilities offer toilets, showers, gaming
machines, a diner and space to relax or socialise 24 hours
a day.
Three Ro-Ro companies currently operate ro-pax ships through
Harwich:-
Stena Line's well-known Hook of Holland route - served
by the HSS 1500 fast ferry "Stena Discovery" and two modern
ro-pax
vessels - is complemented by the line's freight service
to Rotterdam, running three times a day.
DFDS Torline operates frequent services to Esbjerg out of
Harwich.
Nedlines have commenced a brand new route to Ijmuiden during
September 2005. |
