Efficient, fast, secure and consistent - Harwich International Port offers a service that is second to none. Multi-million pound investments have delivered well organised, first-class facilities, all of which we have developed in consultation with our customers and designed to meet their needs.

As a result, Harwich offers transport operators the ideal gateway into Europe and beyond, with more than 35 weekly Ro-Ro connections to the Netherlands and Denmark.

Thanks to a total reorganisation of its internal layout, and a dedicated freight entrance, hauliers and trailer operators move with increased efficiency through the Port - a real benefit in today's world of just-in-time deliveries.

The dedicated freight entrance incorporates cutting-edge technology. Harwich was the first port in the UK to combine Automatic Licence Plate Recognition with line scanning technology.  This system delivers a drive-through weighbridge, damage control and security facilities, helping to expedite throughput in this busy operation.

In order to meet the enormous growth in ro-ro freight traffic, the trailer parking areas have been expanded by a further 12 acres, and a new improved secure perimeter fence is in place.

Drivers' facilities include recently upgraded toilets, shower block, gaming machines, and a diner which is open for extensive periods.

Harwich has a history of working with world-class shipping lines.  Stena Line's traditional Hook of Holland route - served by two recently lengthened and refurbished ro-pax vessels - is complemented by the Line's freight service to Rotterdam, running three times a day.

DFDS Tor Line operates scheduled services to Esbjerg with 'Dana Sirena'.  This brand new ship was introduced in 2003 following conversion and now offers 188 cabins and 1,800 lane metres of freight space.  Additionally, car decks can accommodate 125 cars.

There are regular ro-ro sailings to the Port of Famagusta in Cyprus and to Lagos in Nigeria.
