Harwich International Port Welcomes New Ijmuiden Service
9th June 2005

Harwich International Port has welcomed the announcement by Nedlines BV of the start of a new Ro-pax (passenger and freight ferry) service between the Essex port and Ijmuiden in Holland. The service, which is scheduled to commence in September 2005, will focus on driver accompanied freight traffic.

Nedlines will be the first operator to offer a daily overnight sailing between the Northern part of Holland and Southern England, offering customers an alternative route next to the existing ferry operators on the North Sea and the Channel.

Commenting on the new service, David Gledhill, Chief Operating Officer of Harwich International Port, said:

"We are delighted that Nedlines have chosen HIP as its UK port for this exciting new daily service to Holland. Nedlines have committed to a 5 year agreement with the port and will further enhance the range of options available to shippers from Harwich. With commencement of the service due in autumn this year, the port will reinforce its position as a major Ro/Ro freight gateway to the Europe and Scandinavia, and provide up to 57 sailings in both directions each week."

The new service will be operated by the 'MS Envoy'. This vessel, which will be chartered from Finnlines, has a length of 150 metres and a breadth of 24.4 metres. The ship has a freight capacity of 100 accompanied trailers and 50 passenger cars. The 'MS Envoy' has a total capacity of 200 passengers, and is equipped with 70 modern cabins, a self-service restaurant, bar, shop, video lounge and truckers lounge.

Nedlines BV is a joint venture between ferry operator Doeksen Transport Group BV, financial investor Schelling Investments BV, and project initiator Bart Cunnen.
