Port of Felixstowe Celebrates New Productivity Record

Customers at the Port of Felixstowe are benefitting from fast vessel turnarounds on the quayside as a result of a program of continuous improvements.

The port set a new record for the overall total of container moves per hour on the recent call of the Maersk Sarnia. A total of 3,527 moves were completed during the ship’s time in the port, with the overall total of 182 moves per hour achieved across the whole vessel. In recent months, the port has also set the record for the number of moves for a single Quayside Gantry Crane over 12 hours - 602, the equivalent of more than 50 moves per hour, and the record for the number of moves completed on a single vessel in a 12 hour shift – 2,233.

Clemence Cheng, Chief Executive Officer of Hutchison Ports (UK), which owns the Port of Felixstowe said:

In the past 12 months the port has achieved an overall improvement of 24% in real operational moves per hour on deep sea vessels.
