Daren Taylor (centre), General Manager at Harwich International Port, presents Two Villages Primary school with the Dock School funding.
1st May 2012
Two Village Primary School, Harwich, is celebrating a sizeable donation of £2,300 from the Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) ‘Dock School Programme’.
HPH, the parent company of Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited (‘HPUK’), owners of Harwich International Port, runs the scheme through which schools close to an HPH Port receive financial assistance and enjoy close and mutually-beneficial relationships.
The donation is being used to fund improvements to the school’s ICT equipment, giving pupils the opportunity to broaden their skills and keep up to date with advancing technology.
The cheque was presented by Daren Taylor, General Manager of Harwich International Port, at a school assembly.
David Gledhill, Chief Executive of HPUK, commented:
“The HPH Dock Schools Programme provides our ports with a mechanism to support local schools, and it allows the schools to benefit from links with one of the area’s biggest employers. We are committed to the communities in which we do our business, and aim to ensure that children in these communities have the skills they need to realise their full potential, better their employment prospects and succeed in the 21st Century.”
Kay Wills, Head Teacher at Two Village Primary School, said:
“We really appreciate the port’s generous donation to support the children’s learning in Two Village CofE (VC) Primary school. This gift has enabled us to purchase digital cameras and camcorders for each class as well as new equipment for the IT suite.
“We would like to thank Harwich International Port for its generosity and investment in valuable resources to enhance the technological experiences for the children in our school.”
Other schools in Harwich have also benefited from Dock School funding over the past few years, including The Harwich School and Harwich Community Primary School.
