Langer Primary School Benefits from Dock School Donation
David Gledhill presents Sue Cross with the Dock Schools cheque.

1st May 2012

Langer Primary School in Felixstowe is celebrating a sizeable donation of £2,300 from the Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) ‘Dock School Programme’.

HPH, the parent company of Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited (‘HPUK’), owners of the Port of Felixstowe, runs the scheme through which schools close to an HPH Port receive financial assistance and enjoy close and mutually-beneficial relationships.

The donation is being used to fund a new literacy programme at Langer Primary School, giving pupils the opportunity to improve their reading and communication skills, and contributing to a lifelong love of learning, particularly reading.

David Gledhill, Chief Executive Officer of HPUK said:

“The HPH Dock Schools Programme provides our ports with a mechanism to support local schools, and it allows the schools to benefit from links with one of the area’s biggest employers. We are committed to the communities in which we do our business, and aim to ensure that children in these communities have the skills they need to realise their full potential, better their employment prospects and succeed in the 21st Century.”

Philip Illsley, Interim Headteacher at Langer Primary School responded:

“We would like to thank the port for its very generous donation to Langer Primary School. The money will be used towards the school's new literacy initiative which, this term, will be very appropriately based on the theme of HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The donation will help the school to considerably enrich the literacy curriculum for the benefit of all children.”

A number of schools in Felixstowe have benefitted from the Dock School programme, including Grange Community Primary School, Causton Junior School and Maidstone Infants School.
