Thamesport Celebrates Record-breaking Rail Volumes
05 November 2007

Thamesport (London) Limited is celebrating breaking the record for the number of containers handled by its rail terminal. Volumes reached an all-time high in the October, when a total of 6,007 units were handled, breaking the previous record of 5,411, set in October 1999.

These figures represent a rail modal share for Thamesport of 23.6% and highlight the Port’s dedication to transporting as many containers by rail as possible.

Chris Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited, which owns Thamesport, commented:

“These record-breaking volumes are excellent news. They have come at a time when Thamesport is experiencing constantly increasing volumes of trade, and is welcoming new and returning services. Breaking the 6,000 TEU barrier is a testament to the hard work of the Port’s employees, and the recent levels of investment in our facilities.”

Thamesport operates four rail services daily, which serve Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds/Coatbridge, Doncaster and Birch Coppice.
