Faster Turnarounds at Thamesport
Monday 11th June 2007

Thamesport (London) Limited is pleased to announce today [Monday 11th June 2007] the official opening of its new East Park Gate complex.

Known as ‘Gate 2’, the facility is part of a new development at the Kent port to simplify and improve service levels to hauliers. As a result of the new development, haulier turnaround times in the empty park have been reduced to an average of only eight minutes.

Chris Lewis, Chief Executive Officer for Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited, owners of Thamesport (London) Limited, commented:

“We have a very good record of listening to, and working with, our customers to ensure that we put in place facilities and procedures to meet their needs. This new gate complex is designed to improve service levels and ensure that the Port remains an attractive place for customers to do their business.”

He added:

“Thamesport is currently the only UK deep-water container port with significant spare capacity. Lack of congestion at the Port allows us to offer levels of customer service unequalled elsewhere in the UK.”

All drivers with containers destined for either the empty container park, or the Maintenance and Repair depot, will be required to use the new Gate 2 complex. All vehicles calling at Thamesport book in at a single Drivers' Reception facility, which is adjacent to the Haulier Waiting Area.

An ‘Equipment Interchange Receipt’ (EIR) will be printed at the entry barrier for the haulier. Prior to entering the facility, all drivers will be required to read the brief information printed on the EIR. If the detail presented is accurate, the driver acknowledges this by pressing the 'Enter' button. This lifts the barrier, allowing the driver to pass.

The new gate complex has undergone a period of intense testing and commissioning. An identical procedure is planned for the main Terminal Gate.
